Sunday Night

November 1, 2020November 1, 2020 Anne J.7 Comments

Usually, I do a bit of work on Sunday nights so it’s not a shock to my system come Monday mornings, but I’m struggling tonight… … You see your blessings, the gift of life, the joy and the fun of all around you. Then, your mind wanders, you rememberthose with us who are no longer. Some things…… Continue reading Sunday Night

When I die

October 30, 2020October 30, 2020 Anne J.Leave a comment

Arianna Huffington (Huffington Post, Thrive) believes that it’s good to remember death every day, or something of that sort. I think I’m aware of it every day of my life. Well, we live in South Africa… at least I get to be thankful every hour I am still alive. I am not afraid of death.…… Continue reading When I die

Why?

October 28, 2020October 28, 2020 Anne J.8 Comments

“Why don’t we talk about it?” It is on repeat in my head. I am asking silently, over and over, why people don’t express their emotions. Surely, if we talk about how we are feeling we would not get to the point where we will leave our loved ones behind in a most tragic manner.…… Continue reading Why?

You’d give anything to…

May 1, 2020May 1, 2020 Anne J.2 Comments

You say that: you’d give anything to be healthy, to have the body you had 10 years ago. Anything, you say. You don’t even give a little. Every day, you wake up grateful. You are thankful for the gift of life. You give thanks to God for you are safe and sound. Then, you get…… Continue reading You’d give anything to…

Cause, Effect and Ripple Effects

April 14, 2020May 1, 2020 Anne J.

If you are like some (many?) of us, you would have felt “not good enough” at some point in your life. Inadequacy issues will be nothing new to you. You and I am in the same boat as numerous others. Writing about feelings of inadequacy is old news, too. The more we entertain the thoughts…… Continue reading Cause, Effect and Ripple Effects

A Different Month

April 12, 2020April 19, 2020 Anne J.Leave a comment

https://youtu.be/fmnR5Fp014U It’s a good summary of the first month from Patient Zero (5th of March) to the first few days of April when we were already in lockdown; watch it. Watching this, seeing and being reminded of how others live during this tough time, I feel a little guilty for the spoiled brat moment I…… Continue reading A Different Month

Wow, weird-o!

April 11, 2020April 19, 2020 Anne J.5 Comments

Or should it have been “Wow, weird, oh!”? In 1988-89 school year in Naga College Foundation, I entered the play-writing competition with a play entitled, “Wow, weird-o”. I remember using the hyphen. Back then, I didn’t think “weirdo” was a proper English word. I was in my senior year in high school. I did not…… Continue reading Wow, weird-o!

Unseen

April 10, 2020April 19, 2020 Anne J.3 Comments

Often in the past I reveledIn the merriment of peopleIn a world filled with colorsBuzzing with cheers, laughter, chattersAnd I feared only what I could or might seeAround me, not too far ahead of meTill the year, the decade, as we know itBade farewell and the new is ushered inNow I dread the unseen, invisible…… Continue reading Unseen

Finding the funny

April 5, 2020April 19, 2020 Anne J.2 Comments

On Asians’ Essential Hypertension… “Why that much meds and vits?” I am asked. My answer is something like this: “It’s old age. Oh, and that Asian genetic make up that renders us prone to hypertension. It’s so normal and expected, my doctor said, that it is called essential hypertension. This essential hypertension is quite dangerous…… Continue reading Finding the funny

Temporary

April 4, 2020April 19, 2020 Anne J.15 Comments

“The new, albeit temporary, normal,” I wrote.I am hopeful. I believe this is temporary. There will be a permanent “new normal” where we will find ourselves on the other side of Covid-19. It’s not what we have now, but it might have some aspects of this new-but-temporary normal, integrated to the old normal. Part of…… Continue reading Temporary

A bit about me

Anne J.

Anne J.

I'm a Philippine island girl in Africa, a Filipino-South African. A mad banana woman that I am, I live "la vida loca". The banana part isn’t only because I'm Anna (Banana) but because an old boyfriend had observed that although Asian (yellow on the outside) I'm very much Caucasian in my way of thinking (white in the inside) and my actions, too. It's a rather accurate observation. I am that liberal-thinking and modern-acting Filipino... I remain my tragic-comedic self with a day job in slightly more serious field of Finance, Business Operations and Corporate Affairs.
