“A” is for ABBA

This is my entry for “A” for the A to Z Challenge.

ABBA is an all-time favorite of mine!

In case you have been hiding under a rock, or you’re too young to know, and your parents didn’t bother to teach you the great classic stuff, ABBA is (or was) a Swedish is a Swedish band, a pop group formed in Stockholm in 1972 by Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. Did you see that? That’s where the name ABBA came from.

I absolutely love their music. Their songs are my happy place. They make me feel good. Years ago, I bought a [CD] compilation of the best of ABBA. The pack also came with a DVD and it’s always fun to watch those old music videos. The outfits makes me want to throw an ABBA-themed party.

I watched Mamma Mia, the first movie, in the cinema about three times. Yes, it is a musical.  Who cares if Pierce isn’t a singer! Then, I bought the blu-ray so I could watch the movie over and over and over.

AbbaWhen the show came to the Teatro at Montecasino, my favorite theatre in the city, I watched Mamma Mia, the musical. It was awesome!

Last year, Mamma Mia Here We Go Again was released. I went to the movies twice to see it. I took my girl friends and some ladies at work and I forced hubby to watch it so I could go again. I must say that Cher and Andy Garcia made it even better. I have the soundtrack on my phone. Work seems better when I am listening to ABBA.

Although I love their music in general, there are some songs I like more than others. From the Mamma Mia movie, I love Christine Baranski’s version of “Does Your Mother Know?

Of course, I love “The Winner Takes It All“, “Dancing Queen” and “Super Trouper“.

From the second movie, I was introduced to “Why Did It Have To Be Me” and “Andante, Andante“. It was possible to have missed these songs before as I was only born when the group started singing.

Why Did It Have To Be Me” was performed by the lovely Lily James, the utterly handsome and definitely dashing Josh Dylan and sweet Hugh Skinner.

Oh, to be young!

On that note, I will leave you with the lyrics of “Andante, Andante“.

Take it easy with me, please
Touch me gently like a summer evening breeze
Take your time, make it slow
Andante, Andante
Just let the feeling grow
Make your fingers soft and light
Let your body be the velvet of the night
Touch my soul, you know how
Andante, Andante
Go slowly with me now
I’m your music
(I am your music and I am your song)
I’m your song
(I am your music and I am your song)
Play me time and time again and make me strong
(Play me again ’cause you’re making me strong)
Make me sing, make me sound
(You make me sing and you make me)
Andante, Andante
Tread lightly on my ground
Andante, Andante
Oh please don’t let me down
There’s a shimmer in your eyes
Like the feeling of a thousand butterflies
Please don’t talk, go on, play
Andante, Andante
And let me float away
I’m your music
(I am your music and I am your song)
I’m your song
(I am your music and I am your song)
Play me time and time again and make me strong
(Play me again ’cause you’re making me strong)
Make me sing, make me sound
(You make me sing and you make me)
Andante, Andante
Tread lightly on my ground
Andante, Andante
Oh please don’t let me down
Andante, Andante
Oh please don’t let me down
Songwriters: Benny Andersson / Bjoern K Ulvaeus

I am learning to sing it. Maybe one day, when I find the courage and the I-don’t-care attitude, I will have, and share with you, a video of me singing it. Just for fun!

I hope you enjoy ABBA as much as I do.
