November 30, 2019November 23, 2019 Anne J.

You sit on the edge of the light grey tufted chaise lounge chair in your pearl white bedroom. You look out and see fluffy clouds and blue sky. You know that the cumulus clouds can turn into rain clouds. You notice a bird perched on the potted Japanese maple tree on the balcony. The french…… Continue reading 25, an excerpt (2)

Entry to Cracked Flash Fiction on the 24th of June 2017. Prompt: “Why aren’t you obeying the laws of physics?” (261 words)   WICKED “Why aren’t you obeying the laws of physics?” he demanded, finally addressing me. I realized a few blocks ago that he was following me but I played it cool. I stopped…… Continue reading Wicked

Cave of Secrets

This was my entry to Microcosms’ Contest on the 16th of June 2017. It’s my practice ground and I still do need a lot of practice but here’s what the judge said. “We had 12 awesome entries this week!” “This was a tough one. Lots of interesting responses to the prompts and a good deal of…… Continue reading Cave of Secrets

Insanity – #100word #flashfiction

June 27, 2017June 27, 2017 Anne J.4 Comments

Jane had long realized she was slightly insane. She had been happy about it. She knew she would choose, without even a hint of a doubt, a life of insanity over one of conformity or seriousness or formality, and she did. She would be insane for real if she had to be the person that…… Continue reading Insanity – #100word #flashfiction

The Spell

In my quest to just keep writing, I do my best to write at least one flash fiction a week. Even when I find too lost to submit an entry for Microcosms, I write for Cracked Flash Fiction. Not all my flash fictions make me feel good about being a writer but I think it’s…… Continue reading The Spell

Road Rage (v1) – #flashfiction

Source: Road Rage (v1) – #flashfiction I plan to do a series on Road Rage. This is the first story. Each story has the same beginning but different ending. Her road rage was always a source on entertainment for most of her social network friends. For a small woman, she had a lot of fire…… Continue reading Road Rage (v1) – #flashfiction

The day we met at the airport

June 12, 2017June 12, 2017 Anne J.

I had every intention of writing a flash fiction for last Friday’s Microcosms. However, time wasn’t on my side. I did write a story but it went way over the 300-word limit. Title: The day we met at the airport Word count: 528 words Character: Reporter Setting: Airport Genre: Memoir This is my first time…… Continue reading The day we met at the airport

Destiny (Cracked Flash Fiction)

“Yes, but last week a dragon almost set my hair on fire, so it’s your turn to negotiate.” Amanda looked resolute. “But I’m sick. My stomach is killing me and my head feels like it’s going to explode. I’ll be vulnerable.” Annabelle’s face was pale and she was squirming in pain. “Can we postpone this?”…… Continue reading Destiny (Cracked Flash Fiction)

Point of No Return

May 12, 2017May 12, 2017 Anne J.3 Comments

Do visit Cracked Flash Fiction. It’s where magic happens. This was my entry last Saturday (left exactly as it was submitted). I struggled for hours and lost sleep, finishing and submitting only at about 03:00 am, South African time. The sacrifice paid off. This is my 2nd win. Yay! Judge: “You built a great character…… Continue reading Point of No Return

Three’s a crowd

May 12, 2017May 12, 2017 Anne J.17 Comments

I wrote this story for Cracked Flash Fiction (CCF). It is part of “Enchanted Love”, which is from this flash fiction that CCF picked as the week’s winner and which I am now contemplating on turning into something longer, inspired by Ronel. Prompt: He leaned against the tree with a sigh. He leaned against the tree…… Continue reading Three’s a crowd

A bit about me

Anne J.

Anne J.

I'm a Philippine island girl in Africa, a Filipino-South African. A mad banana woman that I am, I live "la vida loca". The banana part isn’t only because I'm Anna (Banana) but because an old boyfriend had observed that although Asian (yellow on the outside) I'm very much Caucasian in my way of thinking (white in the inside) and my actions, too. It's a rather accurate observation. I am that liberal-thinking and modern-acting Filipino... I remain my tragic-comedic self with a day job in slightly more serious field of Finance, Business Operations and Corporate Affairs.
